Napoli have picked up just five points after the Christmas break, dropping from fifth place to tenth in the Serie A standings.

The Vesuviani have lost four of their last six matches and have failed to keep a clean sheet since the 1-0 win over Catania on January 11.

And a collective defensive howler cost them three points on Saturday night. Edy Reja’s men were leading 1-0 against Bologna, however, Matteo Contini, Leandro Rinaudo and ‘keeper Nicolas Navarro all contributed to gifting the Felsinei an equaliser.

Centre-back Contini yesterday revealed that the entire team had decided to go straight into a ritiro and remain at the Castelvolturno training complex until next Sunday’s match with Genoa.

But La Gazzetta dello Sport reports this morning that it was actually president Aurelio De Laurentiis and director of sport Pierpaolo Marino who pushed for this solution.

Moreover, they have also decided to impose a ban on the media, hence preventing the coach and the players from speaking to the press for the rest of the week.
