After weeks of stagnant activity in the transfer market, Real Betis are about to seal their second key signing in as many days.

After securing rightback Nélson from Benfica, they are now turning their attention to the left as they make a move for Boca Juniors starlet, Luciano Fabián Monzón, one of the main highlights of the Argentine Olympic team that won gold in Beijing.

Reports last week had claimed that German side Hamburg had beaten Betis to the 21 year old’s signature but while the player was still in China competing in the Games, the deal was not able to be officially completed.

And according to Spanish daily Marca, Betis are now looking to take advantage of this small window of opportunity to begin last minute talks with Monzón and his agent, Rubén Schwab, while he is still not yet property of the Bundesliga side.

The pair, along with a representative for Boca, arrived at Seville early yesterday evening to discuss a deal. Betis will have to at least try and top Hamburg’s pre-agreed offer of €5.2 million if they are to snatch the leftback away from the German outfit.
