The Cameroonian custodian Carlos Kameni's current deal with Espanyol runs out at the end of the current campaign, and he has stated that his first choice would be to stay at the Barcelona-basedBlanc i Blau.

But an opening round of talks has exposed the huge disparity between what Kameni believes he is worth, and knows he can earn elsewhere, and what Espanyol are prepared to pay him.

For the past 18 months, the 24-year-old has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, although that cooled when Heurelho Gomes arrived from PSV to take over from Paul Robinson.

Despite his impressive repuation in Holland with PSV, the Brazilian keeper has failed to impress in the Premier League with his inability to meet crosses and error-prone displays.

Kameni has been mentioned as a possible winter purchase with César Sánchez leaving the club and the stand-off with Espanyol may encourage Tottenham to make their move.

Harry Redknapp has stated that he will stick with Gomes, but only because he is the club's current nummber one and a search for a new keeper is said to be already underway.

While Kameni may be keen to play for one season with Espanyol at their new stadium, which they move to in March, he is not prepared to accept a drop in wages - and that could see a deal be struck with Tottenham.
