Benfica and Espanyol have been in talks for García for over a week now as the Eagles are eager to reward coach Quique Flores with his number one striking target.

The Portuguese club have tabled an offer worth €8 million for the player with president Luís Filipe Vieira admitting this to be his final offer for the 27-year-old striker.

The Espanyol board met last night in Manchester to discuss Benfica's offer, having decided to reject it as they stand firm over their asking price of €12 million.

Benfica aren't interested in continuing this saga and are ready to turn their attention to other targets in case Espanyol continue with such demands.

Racing de Santander striker Euzebiusz Smolarek and Palermo's Fabrizio Miccoli are two of the names that Benfica are considering if they miss out on the Espanyol hit-man.
