The presi confirmed to El Mundo Deportivo what his Benfica counterparts feared yesterday.

"We had a meeting with them on Thursday, but the difference between what they offer and what we ask is considerable," he sighed.

"This makes it tough to close the agreement."

While he forsees more negotiations, the president warned that there seemed to be little prospect of a move being completed anytime soon.

"We know that they have a lot of interest in the player and I imagine that this week they'll make a bid, although I don't know if it'll be on Monday or later," he said.

"In any case I think it'll be difficult for them to meet our asking price."

García, a former Real Madrid youth prospect, signed for Espanyol in 2005 from Mallorca. He is a Spanish international as of 2007.
