Despite coming close to completing a move to Benfica just 24 hours ago, Espanyol forward Luis García may have to remain at the Montjuïc as both clubs refuse to budge over the transfer fee.
According to Marca, Benfica president, Luis Filipe Vieira, is standing firm by his offer of around €8 million and he has stated very clearly that he will not increase the bid by even a singe euro.
Espanyol chief Lluis Sánchez Libre, meanwhile, is holding out for at least €12 to €13 million and knowing full well that Luis García is one of the club’s biggest assets, he is keen to milk as much out of the transfer as possible.
“The only I can say about the negotiations is that Benfica have made an offer for Luis García and we are not going to go any higher. We do not want to spend too much time on this transfer,” Vieira said.
Sánchez Libre, however, is confident that the Diabos Vermelhos will make an improved offer soon.
