Luis Garcia, 27, is on the verge of joining Benfica as reports indicate that only €2 million separate the attacking midfielder from the Portuguese giants.
Espanyol are hoping to cash in on the former Real Murcia and Mallorca player, in what will be their most important transfer since those of Sergio Gonzalez to Deportivo La Coruna and Maxi Rodriguez to Atletico Madrid.
Rui Costa and Luis Filipe Vieira offered Espanyol €10 million for the player, but were rebuffed by the Barcelona-based club, who are asking for no less than €12 million. Hence, a mere €2 million more will see Luis Garcia join O Glorioso.
Benfica have already given Espanyol an ultimatum, and negotiations are more than likely to be resolved within the next few days. The club's Spanish coach, Quique Sanchez Flores, insists that the player is his main priority when it comes to reinforcements for the upcoming season.
