Mathieu: Barcelona pressure won't get to me

The defender admits he is enjoying the chance to play alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar and says the team are determined to win every trophy possible this season
New Barcelona signing Jeremy Mathieu insists he is not affected by pressure as he aims for his first piece of major silverware this season.

The Frenchman became the most expensive defender ever at the age of 30 or over when he joined the Catalans this summer for €20 million.

Though he has yet to win a major trophy in his career, the former Valencia man is confident he can help guide the club to success on as many fronts as possible this season.

"I know a lot of things are needed to win but I am prepared to defend the shirt. I know I need to help the team and I hope that this year will be the best possible for the club and the fans," he is quoted as saying by Sport.

"We have to win every trophy possible. It's true that I've not won a lot in my career and I'm here to do that. I've no problem with pressure and the concentration in training and games helps me a lot."

Mathieu was part of the Valencia side which won 3-2 at Camp Nou last season but the France international says he is now relieved to be on the same side as Lionel Messi and Co. rather than facing them.

"When you go to Barca to play against Messi, Neymar, you know you're going to suffer, but now, being with the team, I've simply come to enjoy myself with them," he added.
