thumbnail Hello,

The Man City manager has hailed the two forwards' performances this season and is confident they can return to their best after recent injuries

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has backed Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo to resume their lethal strike partnership.

The duo were prolific earlier in the season, and have scored 49 goals between them already in the current campaign, though a hamstring injury suffered by Aguero means they have not appeared together since a routine victory over West Ham in the Capital One Cup in January.

In his Argentine strike partner's absence, Negredo has failed to score in his last six matches but, with Aguero back to full fitness, Pellegrini is confident the duo can carry on where they left off and get back to their goalscoring best.

"In that moment earlier in the season, it was very productive for the team - and I hope in the future it can be again," said the Chilean manager.

"But in other moments when Sergio was injured, Negredo played very well at that time.

"It's important to have important strikers. Strikers also live from the goals they score. Alvaro will return to his normal performance. He will continue scoring goals."

City face Wigan at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup - a repeat of last year's final, which Wigan won 1-0.
