Pepe: Madrid fought for every ball

The centre-back has voiced his delight with his side's win over Espanyol and has taken the time to praise Luka Modric following his fine form
Pepe has hailed Real Madrid's fighting spirit in the aftermath of their hard-fought 1-0 La Liga win over Espanyol on Sunday.

A single Pepe strike saw Madrid bag the full three points in Catalunya to cut the gap on joint-leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to three points and the Portugal international was understandably pleased with his contribution to los Blancos' victory.

"We knew Espanyol are a tough team at home and that we’d have to fight for everything. And that's what we did. We fought for every ball to get the win," the centre-back told the official Madrid website.

"It was a goal that helped the team. The most important thing is that we won. It was important to win to get closer to the leaders."

Pepe also discussed Luka Modric's fine form in recent weeks and had nothing but praise for the Croatian midfielder.

"Luka is doing very well. He is helping us a lot and not only in this match. He's been playing very well."
