Diego Godin has expressed his delight at having committed himself to Atletico Madrid until 2018.
The Uruguay international has established himself as one of the Rojiblancos' key performers since joining from Villarreal in 2010 for reported fee of €8 million, and has not missed a minute of the capital club's sensational start to this season's Liga campaign.
Consequently, he was only too happy to sign a new five-year contract with Atletico.
"I am very pleased to continue in this club," he told Los Colchoneros' official website. "This is my home.
"They make me feel great despite being away from my country, my home, my friends. What better than to be here with people who love you and makes you feel like one of them.
"We are a group, strong and solid with great togetherness and solidarity. I think this is not achieved so easily.
"It's a club that is showing seriousness, wanting to continue with this project, both with all the guys who are renewing and with the coach [Diego Simeone], who was the first to take the initiative and extend.
"And I think this is good for everyone, especially for the club."
Atletico drew to within a point of Liga leaders Barcelona by defeating Granada 2-1 on Thursday.
