The man they call 'the Onion' is enjoying his time in Madrid, but admits he would like to play in his homeland again before his career is over
The Uruguayan spent the first two seasons of his career with the Uruguayan club before moving to PSG, Benfica, Porto and now Atletico.
“It was a difficult time. I only spoke Spanish and French is very difficult. Not to say that the French are bad, but they are a little more closed and that does not help. I often thought of returning home.
“I’d like to return someday and win some titles with Penarol,” he told Marca.
While he has dreams of returning home, he remains happy with his current playing situation and appreciates the advice given to him by his fellow countrymen.
“(Diego Forlan) spoke highly of Atletico. It was a nice change. The competition is very good and Madrid is one of the most beautiful cities in the world," he added.
“[Diego] Simeone has a lot of ambition. He lives for the game of football more than other coaches, by his nature, his passion and how he talks."
