Hamstring injury rules Jordi Alba out of France-Spain clash

Barcelona have confirmed the full-back will not feature for la Roja on Tuesday night and he could even be a doubt for the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final
Jordi Alba is out of Spain's clash with France and will miss seven to 10 days of action after suffering a strain to his right hamstring, Barcelona have confirmed.

The full-back pulled up late on in Spain's 1-1 draw with Finland on Friday, and it was initially feared he could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines as a result of the problem.

Barca released a statement on Sunday to confirm that the former Valencia man will need just over a week to recover from the injury, meaning he will be absent from la Roja's crucial World Cup 2014 qualifier with France early next week, but could return in time for the Champions League quarter-finals.

"Jordi Alba will be off for between seven and 10 days," a statement on the club's website read. "Tests conducted this morning by the medical services of Barcelona confirmed the wing-back has a hamstring strain in his right leg.

"Thus, if deadlines are met, Alba will miss Tuesday's commitment against France and his presence is a doubt for the games against Celta and Paris Saint-Germain."

Spain head to Paris on Tuesday needing a victory if they are to reclaim top spot in Group I.
