Spain have alternatives in attack, says Del Bosque
By Frank Tigani
Mar 15, 2013 8:05:00 PM
The former Real Madrid boss has defended his choice to only choose two recognised forwards in his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers
Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has insisted that his squad remains offensive despite the lack of attacking players. The 62-year-old has only included two centre forwards in his latest squad for the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Finland and France, but does not believe that his side will be any less offensive as a result.
"Nobody can doubt that we are an offensive team," Del Bosque was quoted by Fifa.com.
"I believe in the centre forwards and we have brought two that are sufficient for us because we have other alternatives in attack such as Pedro, [David] Silva and (Juan) Mata."
Notable exclusions from the Roja squad include Fernando Torres - who scored the goal that booked Chelsea a place in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday, while Swansea's Michu has also missed out again.
Barcelona captain Carles Puyol was also left out due to concerns over his fitness, with Del Bosque preferring not to risk worsening the centre-back's current injury worries.
"I have had contact with him but he still walks with inconvenience. He wanted to come but we prefer not to bring him if he is struggling with his condition."
