Espanyol winger Simao Sabrosa has given his backing to new coach Javier Aguirre, insisting he is right man to take the Barcelona based club forward.
The Mexican took over after the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in November with the club rooted to the bottom of La Liga, but since then under the 54-year-old's guidance, the Catalan side have moved up to 13th place.
Simao, who spent two seasons under Aguirre at Atletico Madrid, believes he is the best man for the job.
"He [Aguirre] is the ideal coach to carry out a project," he told reporters.
"I have spent two fantastic seasons with him at Atletico Madrid and do not have any doubts. He has already shown his great work before and is of a higher level.
"We are looking no further than the next game [against Rayo Vallecano]; if we do not think like that something will go wrong.”
The Portugal winger also spoke about his own future with just over 12 months left on his current deal.
He added: "I still have a year left on my contract with Espanyol, but if I don’t suffer with injuries I want to keep playing. I am happy to play and to help the team."
