The club had imposed a three-week deadline for the player to respond to the deal on the table, but after hearing nothing the Basque side have lost patience and acted accordingly
The Basque outfit offered the Venezuela international a new deal with a deadline of three weeks to respond and Urrutia stated that the proposal was removed after the player failed to answer before the closing date.
“Athletic have told the representatives that the time [to respond] is over and now there is nothing [on offer],” he told reporters.
“Economically I said that the final offer would be made three weeks ago, and we would see if he accepts our proposal. There was a proposal for renewal and [we waited to] see if it was accepted, Athletic has now retired [the negotiations].
The president admitted he did not know if Amorebieta’s career with last season’s Europa League runners-up would now end once the current season draws to a close.
He added: "Now we cannot say that Amorebieta will be an Athletic player next season. I cannot guarantee anything.”
Urrutia also stated that Athletic would not be making any signings before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.
