Clasicos are unlike any other match, says Diarra

The Fulham player has underlined the importance of the encounter between Real Madrid and Barcelona for both players and fans

Former Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra is eagerly anticipating Wednesday's Clasico in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, and feels the matches against Barcelona cannot be compared to any other game.

The Mali international, represented los Blancos between 2006 and 2011, has stressed that the clashes between both Spanish giants are unlike any other match due to the immense pressure.

"You are aware that this is unlike any other match. Inside the dressing room, the footballers are under a lot of pressure, but they are also confident about the match and give it their all," he told the Madrid official website.

"The last few minutes before the clash are just spent thinking about what a great opportunity this is to show everyone why you play for Real Madrid.

"It’s a very special atmosphere because the public is aware of the match’s importance. The team has to come out onto the pitch with ambition and enthusiasm and show everyone what Real Madrid is made of in front of their supporters."

The Fulham midfielder also had his say on Jose Mourinho, and was full of praise for his former coach.

"Mourinho is an excellent coach and he knows what has to be done. It’s very difficult for a team led by Mourinho to be knocked out after a two-legged play-off. Home or away, Real Madrid always have a chance to score."

Wednesday's match at the Santiago Bernabeu is scheduled to kick off at 21:00CET.
