Navas laments Sevilla's 'unfair' result against Malaga

The Spain midfielder bemoans los Rojiblancos' failure to overcome their local rivals and believes their performance meant his side deserved much more from the game

Jesus Navas has described Sevilla's 2-0 derby defeat to Malaga as "unfair" and insists their opponents were extremely fortunate to come away with the win.

Despite a strong first-half performance from the hosts, los Boquerones took the lead through Martin Demichelis soon after the break before Eliseu sealed the win with a penalty in an incident that saw Federico Fazio sent off.

Speaking after the game, Navas stressed that the loss was extremely harsh on his side.

"The first half was very good and Malaga did not even create a single chance," the 27-year-old midfielder told reporters.

"We tried to force the issue but they found the goal early in the second half and it was unfair. After that brilliant first half we deserved more, but Malaga took their chances and that was the key today."

Malaga's Eliseu broadly agreed with Navas' assessment, confessing that luck played no small part in the victory.

"I think we were very lucky in the first half," the Portuguese midfielder admitted to Goal.com after the match.

"These derbies are always difficult. Sevilla started the match very well. They created many chances and played a good first half, and we were lucky to go to the break 0-0. But then we organised ourselves very well and ended up playing a great match.

"We started the second half better. We were more compact and that was the key to the three points today for Malaga."

The result sees the visitors strengthen their position in fourth spot in La Liga, whilst Sevilla remain in 12th.
