Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has claimed that striker Radamel Falcao is the best No.9 in the world as rumours regarding the Colombia international's future continue to grow.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been reported to have shown an interest in the 26-year-old, and Simeone admitted he is especially pleased with the forward's progress after originally working with him at River Plate.
"Because I have an important relationship with him, everything that happens to Radamel makes me happy, as I have known him for years," he told ABC Punto Radio.
"He could never understand my departure from River Plate, and the day before I left he said he wanted an explanation. He knew that we worked well together and today he is the best No.9 in the world."
With Los Colchoneros currently lying second in La Liga, their derby match against third-placed Real Madrid on December 1 has taken on even more significance, but Simeone believes it would be foolish to concentrate on just that encounter and not focus on their next league match against Sevilla.
The Argentine coach continued: "How many games are in a season and how many are against Madrid and Barcelona? Usually, you have to win every game other than against Madrid or Barca. I have to win the game that I will play before."
The former international also revealed that he feels Barcelona play better football than Spain and would be the victors if the two sides ever went head-to-head.
He added: "Barcelona play better. The Spanish would have no chance."
