Bielsa unhappy with Athletic Bilbao defensive performances against Valencia and Lyon

The Basque-outfit have twice seen a winning position reversed in the final five minutes leading their trainer to question his side's concentrations levels in the closing stages
Marcelo Bielsa has lambasted his team for conceding late goals in their last two matches, resulting in Athletic Bilbao suffering significant defeats in the league and Europa League.

Los Leones are sitting in a lowly 16th place in La Liga, and having such high expectations following last season's efforts, their coach has expressed his frustrations.

In their last Primera Division game they conceded two late goals against Valencia, while they then conceded in the 86th minute against Olympique Lyonnais in the Europa League on Thursday.

"A team that deserves a result works hard, and does not assume that the match is finished," Bielsa told Marca. "Every player must maintain their level of effort up until the final whistle."

The future of Fernando Llorente is still up in the air, with the talismanic striker having to be content with a place on the substitutes' bench. But Bielsa insists that the club's top scorer from last year is part of his plans.

"Llorente and Artiz [Aduriz] can play together if the match suits them. Aduriz can develop the game in a way that Llorente cannot, and if the striker is needed to defend then they can both play."

He added: "I have no problem playing with two central strikers when needed, but our most important objective must be to retain possession and create chances from midfield."
