Botia: No contact with Barcelona this summer

The former Spain Under-21 starlet was being linked with a return to Camp Nou ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, but has stressed talks never took place
Sevilla defender Alberto Botia has stressed that Barcelona did not approach him this summer to discuss a potential transfer.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks of the Barca youth academy, but left the Catalans for Sporting Gijon in 2009.

Botia was being linked with a return to Barcelona this summer, but he eventually joined Sevilla instead, and he has now made it clear that the Camp Nou side did not attempt to re-sign him.

"To my knowledge, there has not been any contact between Barcelona and my agent or between the clubs," Botia was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

"Nobody from Barcelona got in touch with me personally. It would have been very difficult to say no to them had they contacted me.

"I am no longer thinking about Barcelona, though. I'm feeling very well at Sevilla. I'm feeling strong and things are going well."

Botia will meet his former club on Saturday evening when Sevilla host Barcelona at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
