League Table
ZARAGOZA
3 1 OSASUNA

An early goal from Helder Postiga saw Real Zaragoza on their way to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Osasuna on Saturday afternoon, a result which leaves Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men rooted to the bottom of the Spanish Primera Division.

The Portuguese striker gave the hosts the perfect start when he latched on to Victor Rodriguez’s through ball and coolly slotted the ball under Andres Fernandez in the Osasuna goal.

The visitors managed to claw their way back into the game in the 29th minute when Emiliano Armenteros found the bottom right corner with a shot from just outside the box.

However, the home side restored their lead just before the break, when Victor’s cross into the box was deflected into the Osasuna net from defender David Timor. Apono rounded off the victory 20 minutes from time when he scored from the penalty spot, after Raoul Loe brought down Jose Maria Movilla inside the area.

CELTA VIGO
2 1 GETAFE

Park Chu-Young netted his first goal for Celta Vigo as the promoted side defeated Getafe 2-1 at Balaidos on Saturday.

Both sides had chances in the opening 45 minutes, but it wasn’t until the 57th minute that the opening was made. Augusto Fernandez put the hosts in front with a powerful shot inside the penalty area, after receiving a neat through pass from Michael Krohn-Dehli. However, the lead lasted just two minutes as Abdel Barrada levelled for the hosts with a peach of a shot into the top right corner.

On-loan Arsenal striker Park then popped up in the 68th minute to guide the ball home with his first touch, after Krohn-Dehli’s cross into the centre, sealing the win for Celta.

REAL BETIS
1 0 ESPANYOL

Junior Paulao's 18th minute strike was enough for Betis to claim all three points on Saturday night as they successfully defeated Espanyol 1-0 in La Liga.

The game was not particularly littered with goalscoring chances, but the decisive breakthrough was made in the 18th minute when Etxebarria Benat's free kick into the box was headed home by Paulao.

It was made an even tougher task for Espanyol in the 66th minute when Mubarak Wakaso received his marching orders after a nasty tackle on Jose Nono earned him his second yellow card of the match. Betis looked more comfortable with their man advantage for the remainder of the match, and held on for the victory.

MALLORCA
2 0 VALENCIA

A goal in either half from Mallorca saw the Islanders continue their excellent start to the new campaign with a solid 2-0 victory over Valencia at Estadio Son Moix.

The hosts got off to the best of starts when Victor Casadesus  received a pass from Tomer Hemed and fired a shot at Diego Alves, which proved to be too hot to handle for the Valencia goalkeeper, to make it 1-0.

Dudu Aouate maintained the lead for his side with a number of decent saves from long-range shots, and this gave Mallorca the chance to search for a second goal, which they found it 10 minutes after half- time. Victor turned provider this time, heading the ball into the path of Javier Arizmendi, who volleyed into the bottom corner past Alves to ensure his team claimed all three points.

LEVANTE
2 1 REAL SOCIEDAD

Levante completed a dramatic turnaround with two goals in the last 20 minutes to defeat Real Sociedad 2-1 at Ciutat de Valencia on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts were unlucky not to go ahead in the first 10 minutes Jose Barkero struck the post from just inside the area. They were made to rue the miss when David Zurutuza drove a shot into the bottom corner from 18 yards, giving Sociedad the lead.

However, the home side rallied in the second-half, and found themselves on level terms in the 70th minute when Barkero made up for his earlier miss by confidently stroking home a penalty. The match looked destined for a draw until new Levante signing Obafemi Martins popped up in the 86th minute to score the winning goal on his debut.

ATLETICO MADRID
2 1 VALLADOLID

Two first-half goals from Atletico Madrid were enough to see Diego Simeone’s men claim all three points against a dogged Valladolid side in a 2-1 victory on Sunday.

Diego Godin opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, when he burst out of defence and received a lovely through ball from Koke, before delightfully clipping the ball over the on-rushing Jaime. Radamel Falcao extended the lead one minute before the break when he dispatched a penalty kick after Diego Costa was fouled inside the area.

The visitors were gifted a ray of hope 10 minutes after half-time when Alberto Bueno’s weak shot somehow got beyond Thibaut Courtois. However, the capital club held out for another vital three points in the league.

ATHLETIC BILBAO
0 0 MALAGA

Two of the Spanish Primera Division’s top sides cancelled each other out on Sunday as Athletic Bilbao and Malaga played out a 0-0 stalemate at San Mames.

The match was devoid of golden goalscoring chances for the majority of the first-half, with Aritz Aduriz coming the closest with a shot into the side-netting on 45 minutes.

The second period did not improve, with neither side registering so much as a shot on goal in the first 25 minutes of the half. Nobody was able to step up and make the breakthrough, ensuring the honours were even in a dull affair in Bilbao.

DEPORTIVO
0 2 SEVILLA

Two goals in the last 15 minutes from Alvaro Negredo and Ivan Rakitic ensured Sevilla took all three points against Deportivo, with a 2-0 victory at Estadio Riazor in La Liga’s last match of the weekend.

The game was largely an end-to-end affair, with both sides exchanging shots and both goalkeepers being tested.

However, it wasn’t until the 75th minute until the deadlock was actually broken. Negredo got on the end of Cicinho’s whipped cross to tap in from close range. Rakitic sealed the win six minutes from time when he closed down Daniel Arunzubia and netted luckily after the Deportivo goalkeeper cannoned his clearance off the Croatian into the net.
