Koeman: Vilanova and Guardiola are not so different
The Dutchman has admitted that he was surprised by the decision to appoint the 42-year-old, and believes the Blaugrana play a slightly different style to last season

Feyenoord coach Ronald Koeman has said that he does not see much difference between Pep Guardiola and new Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova, though he underlined that it will take time to see how any new style evolves.
Vilanova was appointed as Guardiola's successor in April, and the Blaugrana squad have since been at pains to point out that continuity is the best policy.
And the Dutchman stated that there were some important little differences, but suggested that the key was perhaps that Vilanova has not made any substantial alterations on the pitch.
"Initially I was surprised by the decision to appoint Tito, but I don't see Barca playing a less exciting game than last year," he told Marca.
With regards to consistency, the former Barca midfielder pointed out that: "The important thing is that Barcelona haven't made many changes. It's good for a new coach because he can continue on the same line.
"In a few games last season, they lacked someone up front, specifically a goalscorer, but Tito now has players like Alexis or [David] Villa who are able to fill this role."
A key part of Barca's recent prominence has been the success of their La Masia youth graduates, but Koeman is sceptical about the quality of the players currently coming through the ranks.
"I have my doubts about the quality coming from Barça B. I do not know if they can reach the level of Barcelona. If they cannot, they must sign a good centre-back," he added.
Barcelona have started the new campaign with three wins from three games, and they travel to Getafe on September 15 looking for a fourth victory.| Sign up with William Hill for a free bet up to £25 |
