Former Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo is upset because he did not win Uefa's Best Player Award last week.
The trophy for the best player in Europe was awarded to Andres Iniesta at a ceremony in Monaco last Friday, and the one-time Los Blancos full-back has insisted that the Portuguese superstar is disillusioned with life in Spain because of the snub.
“I think Cristiano is annoyed because of the European best player award that Iniesta won,” he told Radio Marca. “I would tell Cristiano to just play like he knows how. He may not want to celebrate, but the fans still will.”
When asked about compatriot Kaka's current uncertain situation at the club, Carlos said: “The important thing is to keep working hard and training well. It's imperative that he keeps his good image. Kaka can then, if [he] wants, leave with his head held high.”
The World Cup-winning Brazil international, who is now an advisor at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, also spoke about the signing of Lassana Diarra, who joined the club during the summer transfer window.
“I really do not know how much we paid for Lass, but all I can say is that Real Madrid have been brilliant in facilitating his departure. It is going to be a great experience for the player,” he explained.
