The Argentina international expects to ink a new deal with the Blaugrana either by the end of this week or the start of the next as he looks to extend his stay beyond 2014Javier Mascherano has revealed that he is close to signing a contract extension with Barcelona.
The versatile Argentine midfielder recently confirmed that he has been in talks with the Catalans over a new deal that would see him extend his Camp Nou stay until the summer of 2016, and he has now affirmed that it is only a matter of time before he puts pen to paper.
"My contract renewal is almost done. Perhaps there will be more news this week, or the next. I’m very calm about the whole thing," Mascherano stated to reporters.
The 28-year-old joined Barcelona from Liverpool in the summer of 2010, and has since developed into an important first-team member at the Blaugrana despite having to settle for a role as a centre-back.
Mascherano has made 97 official appearances for Barca so far, and has yet to find the net in any competition. His current deal is due to expire in June 2014.
