Gijon to rename street in memory of Preciado

The ex-Sporting coach, who spent six years in charge of the Rojiblancos, sadly passed away just a day after being confirmed as Villarreal's new boss
Gijon's city council has announced its intention to rename one of the streets surrounding El Molinon after Manolo Preciado.

The Cantabrian tragically passed away on June 7, suffering a heart attack just a day after his appointment as Villarreal's new boss.

Preciado had spent nearly six years in charge of Sporting Gijon before being fired in January. The city's mayor has now decided to honour the former Rojiblancos boss by naming a street near the club's ground 'Manuel Preciado Grove'.

The ex-Racing Santander defender was scheduled to be formally presented to the media as Villarreal's new coach on June 8.

However, Preciado tragically passed away the night before after suffering a cardiac arrest in his hotel room.
