Real Madrid in advanced negotiations with Arbeloa over a two-year contract extension - report

The former Liverpool defender's current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu is set to expire in 2014, but the Spanish media indicate that he may well be ready to prolong his stay

Alvaro Arbeloa is in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid over a possible two-year contract extension, according to a report in AS.

The Spain international’s current deal runs until the summer of 2014, but Jose Mourinho’s men are set to reward the ex-Liverpool man with an extension.

It is believed that Arbeloa’s agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has been in discussions with the newly-crowned La Liga champions, with agreement over his new contract imminent.

Should the versatile defender put pen to paper on an extension, he will remain at the club until 2016, when he will be 33.

Meanwhile, Raul Albiol, who is also represented by Quilon, is also set for talks with club officials over his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is believed that the former Valencia man is eager to stay in Madrid, despite his limited opportunities in the the starting XI in 2011-12.
