thumbnail Hello,

The country's all-time record goalscorer has been sidelined since December with a leg break but he is eyeing a return to action against Athletic Bilbao on May 25

Barcelona forward David Villa is reportedly hoping to convince Spain boss Vicente del Bosque to take him to Euro 2012 by proving his match fitness in the final of the Copa del Rey.

The 30-year-old striker has been out of action since fracturing his tibia in the Club World Cup in December but, according to Cadena COPE, has been back training with the ball for three weeks and is confident of being available for the Blaugrana's meeting with Athletic Bilbao on May 25.

Villa is optimistic that if he features in the game at the Vicente Calderon, Del Bosque will include him in his squad for Poland and Ukraine.

The Spain boss will name a provisional list of 30 players on May 15, before announcing his final selection two days after the Copa del Rey final.

Del Bosque has already publicly admitted that he is willing to give Villa, the country's all-time record goalscorer, until the last moment to prove that he has fully recovered from his leg break.

Spain have been drawn in the same group as Italy, Republic of Ireland and Croatia at Euro 2012.
