The holding midfielder insists that Pep Guardiola's men will continue fighting right until the end for the league title, but admitted that their focus, as far as La Liga is concerned, is ensuring that their star Argentine forward finishes the campaign as the Pichichi.
“The most important thing is the team, but we have to do everything we can so that Leo finishes the season as top goalscorer," the Spain international told reporters after the win over Rayo Vallecano. "He’s broken all the records; he’s the best in the world."
Barcelona are back in La Liga action on Wednesday when they host Malaga on Wednesday, with the Blaugrana needing a win to keep alive their faint hopes of retaining their Spanish title but know that leaders Real will be crowned champions if they defeat Athletic Bilbao at San Mames on the same evening.
The Catalan giants could go into the clash without Alexis Sanchez after the club revealed on their official website that the winger is an injury concern for the encounter against Manuel Pellegrini's side at Camp Nou.
According to a statement, the Chile international was left with a badly bruised left thigh after Sunday night's 7-0 rout of Rayo Vallecano in Madrid.
Consequently, Alexis could be forced to sit out the visit of the Andalusians and he could be joined on the sidelines by goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who has been laid low by illness.
Barca's clash with Malaga is scheduled to kick off at 20.00CET.
