The versatile Portugal international will miss out on the Liga game after the trainer left him out of the squad, and his decision could be down to the player's off-field anticsReal Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has made the decision to leave left-back Fabio Coentrao out of the match squad for Wednesday's Primera Division match away against Villarreal.
The Portugal international recently made the headlines for all the wrong reasons when he was pictured smoking outside a restaurant on his birthday, and his exclusion could very well be a reaction to the incident.
"Coentrao has been dropped due to coaching decisions," a statement on the club's official website reads.
Assistant coach Aitor Karanka stressed during Tuesday's press conference that the incident is an internal matter and would be treated as such.
Meanwhile, Angel Di Maria, Ricardo Carvalho and Raul Albiol will all miss the match as well for various reasons.
Di Maria and Carvalho are both unavailable due to injury, while Mourinho opted to include promising youngster Raphael Varane in his 20-man squad ahead of Albiol.
Wednesday evening's encounter kicks off at 22.00CET.
