Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao believes that new coach Diego Simeone is responsible for his recent goal rush.

The striker arrived at the Vicente Calderon from Porto last summer but after making a fine start to his Rojiblancos career, he began to struggle in the run-up to Christmas.

However, Falcao has looked like his old self since the arrival of Simeone during the winter break and has hit five goals in his last two Primera Division games to take his tally to 14 for the season.

According to the Colombia international, the spectacular return to form is down to the new boss.

"Simeone knew me from having worked together at River [Plate]," he told AS. "He knew how to get the best out of me, how to realise my potential."

Simeone's impact has been felt across the board and the Rojiblancos, having collected seven points from their last three games, have risen to seventh in La Liga and are now eyeing fourth spot.

"He's a very passionate coach in everything he does," Falcao added. "He has very clear concepts of how he wants to manage the team and gives us a lot of intensity.

"The message is effort and that we are a whole and we do everything together in terms of attack and defence.

"The most important thing is that every one of us does our best for the good of the group so that we can soon be close to the Champions League places."

Atletico return to Liga action on Monday when they tackle Osasuna in Pamplona.
