Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho believes it is time for Mesut Ozil to step up his game as he underlines what he expects from the German midfielder going forwards.
Ozil featured in the 4-0 demolition of Lyon during their Champions League Group D clash on Tuesday night and it was his shot that led to Madrid's third goal, but he was replaced by Kaka after 66 minutes.
The former Werder Bremen midfielder has played in all seven Liga clashes for his side so far, and appeared in three games in Europe this term as well.
But despite the youngster's consistency in earning regular action, Mourinho wants more as he asks for improvement on the pitch.
"Ozil must now reach the next level. His performances last season were better, he must find his form again. More needs to come from him," Mourinho is quoted as saying by Bild.de.
However, the Portuguese also took time to praise the talented No. 10.
"Ozil is a great player," he added.
"Every time he gets the ball, he does fantastic things with it. The fans love him for it and I love him too."
Madrid will now turn the attentions to their Liga match away to Malaga on Saturday, with kick-off at La Rosaleda taking place at 20:00 (CET).
Mourinho's side are currently third in the standings on 16 points - one behind fierce rivals Barcelona, who lead the championship race.
