The Brazil international had not netted in 14 matches, but scored the second goal in his side's 2-0 win over Mallorca at El Madrigal at the weekend

Villarreal striker Nilmar has expressed his delight at ending his goal drought, and hopes the strike can be the catalyst for a good season.

The 27-year-old scored against Mallorca on Tuesday night in a 2-0 win at El Madrigal, which was the first time he has hit the net since February.

The former Internacional attacker had gone 14 games, and 913 minutes, without converting, and has admitted he needed to break the unsuccessful run.

"I was not taking chances or having fortune in front of goal, which [is what] makes a good striker," he told Marca.

"[I am] very happy, and [I hope] to regain confidence in the front of goal."

The result was the first victory of the campaign for Juan Carlos Garrido's men, and the South American hopes the win can kickstart the team's season.

"It was important to get the first three points and it gives some reassurance, which was needed after a start in which things had not gone well.

"The team knows that we can return to the level we played at last year. And this first win is a step for the team," he concluded.

Villarreal now travel to San Moix on Saturday to take on Athletic Bilbao in what will be a difficult match for the struggling side.
