Real Sociedad goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has come out to defend former international coach Marcelo Bielsa, as the ex-Chile trainer continues to struggle at the head of Athletic Bilbao.
Bielsa moved to the Basque Country for the 2011-12 Liga season after leaving Chile at the start of the year. After three games, however, the eccentric coach finds himself under pressure due to some indifferent results.
A draw against Rayo Vallecano on the first day of the season was followed by two defeats, leaving the club languishing in the bottom reaches of the table with just one point.
Speaking on Tuesday, however, Bravo put aside local rivalries as he praised the coach of Sociedad's Basque neighbours and affirmed that Bielsa's unique methods must be given time in order to work.
"He was questioned at first with Chile as well because things weren't going as everyone expected. In the end though the project was a success. He is a person who you have to give time because he wants to change all the club's methodology rapidly," the Chile No. 1 commented, in declarations reported by Triunfo.
"He is a very difficult person to decipher, but he is also one of the best coaches in the world."
Bielsa and Athletic will continue the hunt for a win tomorrow evening, when they visit a Malaga side directed by Chilean Manuel Pellegrini.
