Atletico Madrid attacker Jose Antonio Reyes insists that it is 'virtually impossible' to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga.
Much has already been said about the dominance of the two Spanish powerhouses in recent weeks, and Reyes had added his own opinion, stating that he feels the other clubs have little chance of breaking into the top two in the current situation.
"Barcelona and Real Madrid are two very powerful clubs who can sign anyone they want, which makes it virtually impossible to compete with them," Reyes was quoted as saying on the official Fifa website.
"The league’s between those two and the rest of us are fighting it out among ourselves. I think Atleti’s league, like everyone else’s, starts with third place, which means we should be going for a Champions League place at least."
Reyes, who wore the Arsenal jersey from 2004 until 2007, then went on to discuss the differences between the Spanish and the English league, and insisted that La Liga is stronger.
"The Spanish league is the best, without a doubt. The English league’s good to play in because the game’s played at pace and rarely stops, and referees only blow for obvious fouls.
"There’s more quality and possession football in the Spanish league, though."
