Victor Valdes 'very proud' to equal Andoni Zubizarreta's record as goalkeeper with most Barcelona appearances

The shot stopper has turned out exactly the same number of times as the club's current sporting director following Monday's win over Villarreal

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is proud to have equalled Andoni Zubizarreta's record as the shot stopper who has made the most official appearances for the Camp Nou side.

Zubizarreta played in 410 official games for the Spanish champions from 1986 until 1994 and Valdes has now made exactly as many appearances following his participation in Monday evening's 5-0 La Liga win over Villarreal.

"I’m very proud to equal Zubi, it’s a very special day. This figure was unthinkable when I made my debut," Valdes said, as reported on the club's official website.

The 29-year-old made his official Barcelona debut in 2002 and has since featured in 296 La Liga games, 82 Champions League matches, 12 Copa del Rey clashes, four Club World Cup encounters, five Uefa Cup games, eight Spanish Supercopa ties and three European Supercup meetings.

Valdes has conceded 323 goals in his 410 matches between the sticks and won four Zamora trophies as the goalkeeper conceding fewest goals in La Liga.
