Barcelona's Gerard Pique to miss Uefa Super Cup following hamstring injury

The La Liga champions have received some bad news ahead of the Uefa Super Cup, after learning that their influential defender will be an absentee for the upcoming tie
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique will spend three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, the Spanish club have announced.

The news means that the Champions League holders will sit out the Uefa Super Cup against Porto, on Friday, in Monaco.

Pique, who played 45 minutes in Barcelona's 5-0 friendly victory over Napoli on Monday, picked up the problem in Tuesday's afternoon training session.

Besides the European Super Cup, Pique will also miss the club's first two league matches, against Villarreal and Real Sociedad.

With captain Carles Puyol also due to return in three weeks' time, Barcelona coach will most likely have to resort to Eric Abidal and Javier Mascherano as centre-backs.
