The Brazilian full-back has hailed the coach's positive influence and expressed his satisfaction with the Catalans' Spanish Supercopa victory
Three players were dismissed after a massive brawl in the closing stages of the game and whereas Madrid coach Jose Mourinho made the headlines for all the wrong reasons for his involvement in the incident, Guardiola kept his calm.
"If you have a negative model, you do negative things. If you have a positive model, like Guardiola, who says positive things and tells you to compete on the pitch and to play football, it’s much better," Alves said to Barcelona TV.
The Brazil international then looked back at Barcelona's Supercup win and was obviously pleased with the victory.
"It looked like Madrid would win this title because they had a great pre-season and Barcelona looked like we were not in such good physical condition.
"Perhaps we were less ready than they were, but we’ve got a lot of quality here. This Supercup win was vital."
