Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has stressed that Nuri Sahin is recovering well from his knee injury and could resume squad training after the Primera Division match against Athletic Bilbao on August 19.
The 22-year-old midfielder picked up the problem ahead of his side's pre-season tour to the USA and has since been working on his recovery.
"Sahin has been improving, unlike what some people with bad intentions have said. He has recovered well and could start training with the team after the match against Athletic Bilbao," Mourinho said on the club's official website.
Sahin joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund this summer after an impressive 2010-11 campaign with the Bundesliga champions.
Mourinho also discussed French youngster Raphael Varane and stated that the defender still has plenty of room for improvement.
"Varane is a kid with a great potential, but he is young and has to work a lot. He is very smart and knows he has a lot to improve. We have a lot of faith in him and he has won us over thanks to his humility and work ethic."
Varane joined Madrid from Lens and could make his full debut in Sunday's Spanish Supercopa first-leg against Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu.
