Nacho Monreal delighted with Spain recall

The Malaga full-back expresses his joy at the prospect of playing for his country again after being frozen out of the European and world champions’ squad since 2010
Malaga defender Nacho Monreal is delighted to be back in the Spain squad following an injury to Sergio Ramos, but is hopeful that the Real Madrid right-back will recover soon.

Monreal was recalled by coach Vicente del Bosque ahead of the international friendly against Italy on Wednesday following the withdrawal of Ramos.

The 25-year-old last featured for Spain in October 2010 during the encounters against Lithuania and Scotland in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.

"I'm very happy," Monreal is quoted as saying by Malaga’s official website.  "It's a call-up that I didn't expect.

“I'm going because of an injury to a colleague, and I hope that he recovers as soon as possible."

If Monreal features against Italy, then he will become the eighth Malaga player in history to represent Spain. Macias, Migueli, Deusto, Jose Rufete, Pedro Contreras and Salva Ballesta previously played for the national team while being on the books of the Andalucian club.
