Sporting Gijon confirm signing of Ricardo Leon from Tenerife

La Liga's overachievers of 2010-11 have added a new face in the middle of the park in the shape of the 28-year old, who moves from a club very much in decline
Sporting Gijon have moved to strengthen their midfield with the signing of 28-year old Ricardo Leon on a free transfer after his contract with Tenerife expired.

The club from the northern Spanish region of Asturias will be hoping that the central midfielder will help the club move on after the departure of winger Diego Castro, who recently signed for fellow La Liga outfit Getafe.

After five seasons with his first club, Leon has signed a three-year deal, taking him to 2014. He made 32 appearances for Tenerife this season without scoring as the one-time La Liga side were relegated from the Segunda Division.

Ricardo Leon represents Sporting's second acquisition of the summer transfer window following the signing of Damian Suarez from Uruguayan side Defensor Sporting.
