Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain: The people of Argentina have waited too long for success

The striker is desperate to give his nation's fans joy in the Copa after 18 years without glory, while admitting that it would be good to play with Kun Aguero in Madrid
Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has claimed that he is desperate to bring glory back to the Argentine people with victory in the 2011 Copa America, as the Albiceleste finished their first day of training for the tournament just over three weeks before kicking off in La Plata.

Higuain joined Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria and the rest of the Seleccion stars in Ezeiza as they practiced under the watchful eye of coach Sergio Batista. The Madrid man was one of 26 players called up to a preliminary squad despite missing a large part of last season through injury, and has high hopes of making the final 22 due to be announced after a friendly against Albania on June 20.

Speaking to reporters after the session, 'Pipita' affirmed that he is extremely motivated to do well in the home Copa, and wants to give fans something to shout about after 18 years without a senior trophy.

"We want to give some joy to the people," he stated on leaving the training paddock. The nation have not won a major tournament since the Copa America of 1993.

The Merengue star was also questioned over the possible arrival of Sergio Aguero to the Bernabeu; but refused to give a definitive answer.

"It is not my decision, it is up to the president. I would like to have in my team though."

Argentina open the 2011 Copa America with a Group A match against Bolivia, in the new Estadio Unico of La Plata.
