Coach of the Catalan side is pleased with his players’ performance against the city-rivals and believes that they could have won the match

Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino says that he is proud of his players following the Catalan derby on Sunday evening despite going down 2-0 to Barcelona.

Goals from Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique saw Pep Guardiola’s collect all three points at Camp Nou in the Primera Division encounter, but Pochettino was pleased with what he saw of his players.

“I am proud of my team,” he said, according to Spanish sports daily Marca. “We stood our ground and put in a great effort, but we paid dearly for not taking advantage of the chances.

"We also failed on two occasions, both of which should have led to goals.”

Espanyol are currently eighth in the league table with 48 points from 35 matches, four points off the final Europa League spot.
