Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho: Barcelona are good, but not the world champions

The Portuguese tactician said that he would not speak about the Catalan giants before the press conference, but it did not take him long to mention them

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is waiting until next week before delving into their Champions League challenge against Barcelona and believes that the Spanish champions are not a dominant force.

Speaking to the press ahead of Madrid's trip to Valencia on Saturday evening just three days after winning the Copa del Rey against Barca there, Mourinho said that his focus is on nothing but the Primera Division encounter and also rejected claims that midfielder Sami Khedira was out for the rest of the season.

"I don't want to know anything about Wednesday [the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona], we are playing on Saturday, we will rest on Sunday with our families and then on Monday we will think about Barcelona," he said on Friday.

"We are not done with anything. And there is no hegemony. Barcelona are fantastic, they have won plenty and will win more, but they are not the European or World Champions, they are the Spanish champions."

Reports earlier on Friday suggested that Khedira would be out for the rest of the season after he suffered an adductor strain in the Copa del Rey, but Mourinho has dismissed these apprehensions.

"The injury to Khedira is important like any other,” said the Portuguese. “It's a limitation for the team and there are players who are hard to replace. It is what it is, bad news, but to say he will not return before the end of the season is absurd.

"He will not play tomorrow or on Wednesday because there is no miracle in medicine, but we hope he is back soon."

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been linked with a move to Madrid to reunite with Mourinho, but the 48-year-old treated the news as a rumour and nothing more.

"I will not even go there,” he said. “It's the last thing we need now and we are not thinking about this.”
