Young defender Alberto Botia could leave Sporting Gijon again at the end of the season as Barcelona are considering re-signing their former youth player...

The good performances of young defender Alberto Botia for Sporting this season haven't gone unnoticed at Barcelona, and the Catalan giants are keen to re-sign the 22-year-old defender this summer, Sport reports.

The reigning Spanish champions are eager to add some more depth to their back-line at the end of the season, and head coach Pep Guardiola considers Botia to be worthy of a return to the Camp Nou.

Botia came through the ranks of the Barcelona youth academy, but never managed to secure regular first team action, and was farmed out on loan to Sporting Gijon in 2009-10, with the Rojiblancos making his stay at El Molinon permanent in the summer of 2010.

However, Barca have the option to buy the former Spain under-21 starlet back for a fee of €1.5 million and they are ready to exercise that obligation.
