thumbnail Hello,

Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel has reportedly attracted the interest of Barcelona.

Primera Division champions Barcelona are closely monitoring the situation of Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel, according to a report in De Telegraaf

The Blaugrana are in the market for a new right-back because of the ongoing uncertainty about the future of Daniel Alves and head coach Pep Guardiola reportedly sees Van der Wiel as a good replacement in case the Brazilian leaves the club.

Van der Wiel is a product of the illustrious Ajax youth academy and has developed into a key player at the Godenzonen in the past three seasons. The Netherlands international has made well over 100 official appearances for Ajax so far.

The 22-year-old has previously been linked with clubs such as Bayern Munich, Milan and Manchester City, but Ajax have yet to receive an official offer for the right-back.

The defender's current contract with Ajax runs until the summer of 2013, but he reportedly has a limited fee release clause of €20 million.
