Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has confessed that he and his team-mates are extremely motivated to defeat Espanyol in this weekend’s Catalan derby.
La Liga’s match of the weekend sees the Blanc I Blau, who are unbeaten at the Cornella-El Prat, take on the league leaders who have yet to be drop any points domestically away from home this season.
Speaking to the media today, Valdes conceded that the magnitude of the local derby has added extra impetus to the match for the Camp Nou giants.
He remarked: “We are very motivated for the derby. At Cornella the environment is very strong, but for all professionals there is the motivation to play in a place like this.”
Valdes, who has not conceded in over ten hours of football going back seven matches, also said that it is environments such as this that the team thrives, adding: “I have a great time playing in this team. I told people earlier in the season that we are better than ever, and people thought I was mad.
“But we are better than the others, especially under pressure.”
