"We have good players and a great coach, so this is not a fatal blow," he told As.com.
"Barcelona were superb, playing consistently and with confidence from the start. They scored with their first chance and we found it tough to overcome that.
"On the bad side we encountered a Barcelona team that were greatly superior: on the good side, we only lost three points. Now we hope to recover."
The Argentine's comments on Jose Mourinho could yet prove controversial.
"He couldn't bring a major correction to the game," noted Valdano. "Today he didn't even leave the bench."
