thumbnail Hello,

David Villa happy with Barcelona's "strong" victory over Villarreal at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona striker David Villa has focused on the importance of the Blaugrana’s hard-earned victory over Villarreal at the Camp Nou on Saturday evening.

The Spanish international striker struck on 22 minutes before Nilmar levelled the match for the visitors, however a Lionel Messi double in the second half put paid to the challenge of the Yellow Submarines.

Speaking to journalists after the match, 'El Guaje' said he felt that the most important element of the match was the three points, and he stated: “I’m very happy with this result, but the most important thing is to work well and hope that the team wins. Continuity is everything, and I am happy with my form in front of goal.

“Messi surprises us in every match. We are playing very strongly, and hopefully we can keep this up ahead of the Clasico.”

Villa also commented on the decision to award Messi’s killer third goal from what seemingly was an offside position, adding: “Mistakes are part of football, sometimes they favour you and sometimes not.”

Barcelona’s win edged them to the top of the Primera Division table, with Real Madrid facing Sporting at El Molinon this evening.
