thumbnail Hello,

Barcelona players refuse to pass comment on Fernando Amorebieta's red card challenge on Andres Iniesta.

Members of Barcelona’s squad passed comment on the side’s hard-fought victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames, but refused to remark on the controversial red card give to Fernando Amorebieta in the first half that changed the course of the game.

The Blaugrana went on to defeat los Leones thanks to goals from Seydou Keita, Xavi and Sergio Busquets, and the latter said of the result: “It was a difficult game, as it always is in San Mames, and after the expulsion [of Amorebieta] it has gone better.

“I could not see the incident from my position on the pitch, so I do not know if he [Amorebieta] went for the ball or not.”

Continuing on that line, defender Dani Alves remarked: “We did a great job here to get a splendid result. We will die with the philosophy that we show, and we have done very well.”

Goalscorer Keita, who linked with David Villa to open the scoring, admitted that the dismissal changed the game but refused to give his opinion on the decision.

He added: “It was an important moment, the tackle was hard, but we are just happy to win in Bilbao, and this was without Leo [Messi].”
